I don't understand the criticism of her singing. She was at the end of a long and very distinguished career. Her voice was always huge and not the most beautiful, but her singing was so supremely musical and technically spot-on. That she could still sing with such line and power is extraordinary. Perhaps there are those who love the "intense" Salomes of such over-parted singers as Catherine Malfiitano and Nadja Michael. You are welcome to them.

OMG, her F's are so sharp and strong and her acting totally conveys the emotions involved in the scene. She succeeds in balancing between near-perfect singing (the diction is not perfect although she is German) and to-the-point acting without the slight over-acting of Damrau (even though I also love Damrau...). Amazing moment in the world of OPERA :)

Brilliant voice but you must see Diana Damrau as Queen of the Night on UA-cam. Her acting is superb, her voice, body language and the costume, spectacular. The definitive Queen in my opinion.

beautiful aria by Mozart and magnificently sung by Edda Moser and she really is a Queen on stage. A rare perfomance of a heavenly piece of music. Only the very great like Cristina Deutekom and Diana Damrau can move me in the same way, each with their own strong points. Still, I am glad this aria is still sung by current soprano's. Their voices may not be as great as Moser's and Deutekom's, but they keep the music alive and give us a chance to actually enjoy it in live performances.

Edda Moser is the definitive Queen: massive, dramatic voice, sound technique and, most importantly, she PLAYS THE CHARACTER. No Bel Canto chirping here - it's death and carnage all the way! :-)

Popp has a beautiful voice, but she sings the audience to sleep - tempo way too slow and not enough RAGE!

Her facial expression kinda scares me. Which is good taking into account in what cicumstances this was sung in the play...

That's how it is in her masterclasses :) the young queens are often terrified !

Moser and / or Deutekom...the only REAL Queens of the night...not only a Bel canto Coloratura Showcase...real CHARACTER!! Brava!!
